Called a Faecal Occult Blood Test or FOBT, it is a simple test you can do at home that can detect small amounts of blood in your bowel motion. You simply send the test as directed to a pathology laboratory for analysis...at no cost to you.
It is quick, easy and absolutely painless. Your FOBT result is positive if blood is present in your samples. If blood is present you will be asked to contact your doctor to discuss the result. The presence of blood may be due to conditions other than cancer, like polyps or haemorrhoids…but the cause needs to be investigated.
